О чём эта песня
Песня — мрачная, саркастичная исповедь о том, как человек обнаруживает, что уже стал тем, кем его называли, и что спасения в привычном «небе» нет. Ключевые образы — червь, который неожиданно получает крылья, но не понимает этого, и перевёрнутое небо/ад, где «попасть в рай» значит пожалеть о несделанном. Настроение скольжения и обречённости подчёркнуто навязчивым повтором «I know I'm slipping away» и парадоксальным рефреном «Oh no, I am all the things they said I was». Приёмы простые и жёсткие: антитеза, повтор, гротескная ирония над «люби всех», которая, по мысли текста, обесценивает ненависть и не даёт исцелиться. В итоге герой принимает свою теневую природу — «мир содрогается, когда червь получает крылья» — и это одновременно жутко и по-своему освобождающе.
